The publisher

What we publish

Perkumpulan Tamalanrea Science and Research Center is a research association constituted under Indonesian law and registered with the Ministry of Law. Publishing is one of its principal activities.

We publish scholarly work on the manuscript traditions, languages and local knowledge of South Sulawesi and eastern Indonesia: critical editions and transliterations of naskah kuno, translations, monographs, and edited volumes. Our concern is with material that is poorly catalogued, at risk, or has not been made readable outside a small circle of specialists.

Lontara Pabbura

Traditional Bugis medicine: edition, transliteration and commentary
Edited by the Lontara Pabbura research team, Tamalanrea Science and Research Center

A scholarly edition of Lontara Pabbura, the branch of the Bugis manuscript tradition concerned with healing — the identification of illness, the preparation of remedies, and the practices surrounding treatment. The volume presents transliterated Lontara text alongside translation and commentary, together with an account of the materia medica recorded and its relation to plants and practices still in use in South Sulawesi.

I La Galigo

Transliteration and translation from the SOAS collections
Tamalanrea Science and Research Center

A transliteration and English translation of I La Galigo material held in the SOAS collections. The Bugis creation epic is among the longest literary works known, and comparatively little of it is available in a form readable outside the small community of Lontara specialists. This volume presents the text with facing translation and the apparatus needed to work with it as a source.

If you are working on an edition, a translation or a monograph within our scope, we would like to hear from you. We are a new press and are building a list deliberately rather than quickly, which means we can give a proposal real attention.
