We are a new press. We have no backlist and no established reputation, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What we can offer is serious attention to a proposal, genuine external review, no charges of any kind, and a publisher whose subject is the same as yours.

Proposing a book

Send the following to press@tamalanreasrc.org. There is no form to complete.

A description of the book — two to four pages covering the subject, the argument or the material, why it matters, and what is distinctive about it
A table of contents, with a paragraph on each chapter
Your position — who you are, your affiliation, and your relationship to the material
The readership — who you expect to read this, and what comparable books exist
Practical detail — expected length, language, number of images, whether permissions are needed, and when you expect to deliver
A sample — one chapter, or for an edition, a representative passage with your transliteration and translation

How proposals are handled

Proposals that fall outside our scope are declined quickly and with reasons, so that you can go elsewhere without waiting.

Proposals within scope are sent to at least two external readers with relevant expertise. We ask them to assess the scholarship, the necessity of the book, and its suitability for our list. Reader reports are sent to you in full, whatever the outcome.

The full manuscript is reviewed again on delivery. Acceptance of a proposal is a commitment to consider the finished book seriously, not a guarantee of publication.

Editions and translations

For a critical edition or translation we will also want to know:

Which manuscripts or witnesses you are working from, and where they are held
Whether you have the right to reproduce images of them, and from whom
Your transliteration conventions, and why you have chosen them
What relationship you have with the custodians of the material, where it is privately held

On manuscripts in private hands: we expect editions of privately held material to be prepared with the knowledge and consent of the custodian, and for the custodian to receive a copy of the published volume. We will ask about this.

What we offer

No charges. We do not ask authors to contribute to production costs.
You keep copyright. You grant us the right to publish; the work remains yours.
ISBN registration with Perpusnas RI for every title.
Copyediting and typesetting, including Lontara script setting.
Print and digital editions, with open access considered case by case where funding allows.
Deposit with the National Library of Indonesia, as required by law.

Ethics

We follow the same standards as our journal. Work must be original and not under consideration elsewhere; sources must be properly credited; permissions for reproduced material must be secured before production; and research involving communities must document consent and address benefit-sharing. Any use of generative AI in preparing a manuscript must be disclosed, and AI cannot be credited as an author.

Questions before you write a proposal

If you are unsure whether a project fits, send a paragraph describing it to press@tamalanreasrc.org. We would rather answer that than have you spend a week on a proposal we cannot use.
